TEACHING
TEACHING PHYLOSOPHY
Dudley's teaching approach is described as versatile and modern. She incorporates new technologies and media into her courses and shares her interests in improvisation and various musical styles with her students. She also emphasizes a welcoming environment for her students' concerts.
Sonia Wheaton Dudley is an experienced music educator with teaching experience at both the university and college levels, in addition to running her own private studio. Her teaching focuses primarily on classical piano and chamber music.
University and college teaching
Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
Since August 2015, Dudley has been an adjunct instructor of classical piano. In this role, she organizes activities for her students, including concerts that feature the works of female composers. She also hosts workshops on topics like the psychology of performance.
Villa Maria College
From August 2011 to June 2016, Dudley served as a piano teacher at Villa Maria, a private high school in Montreal.
International Teaching
State University of New York (SUNY) at Potsdam
Dudley held two separate positions at SUNY Potsdam.
- Visiting Assistant Professor of Piano from January to June 2018.
- Adjunct Instructor of Piano from August 2011 to December 2014.
Curriculum: During her time at SUNY Potsdam, she taught studio piano, piano literature, and chamber music to undergraduate and graduate students in performance, music education, and music business.
NorthWesthern State University Of Louisiana
Sonia delivered master class on music improvisation and a classical recital featuring works by canadian composers.
